Training For Tuesday #1

tracytris

I'm new to the whole fitness thing so my goals this month are pretty basic.

1. Continue workouts minimum 3 times a week.

2. Complete the 30 day squat challenge.

3. Complete the 30 day Fitness Challenge (app)

4. Do 3 Circuits a day of the Seven workout (app)

My ultimate goal is to begin training for a 5k. My plan is to run one either next spring or fall. Right now I am working on my endurance to be able to run.

Review: Graze Box {August 2014}

This post contains an affiliate link.

For my post on Graze as a program, click here.

I only received one box in August.

1) El Picante: mini paprika breadsticks, jumbo salted corn, and hot chili peanuts {130 calories}
         This one was pretty good. I like spicy food so this one was great for me. I gave it a "like" rating.

2) Garden of England: mini strawberries, blackcurrants, and soft apple pieces {70 calories}
          This one was surprisingly good considering I didn't like the apples in the other snack. However, when paired with the strawberries and blackcurrants, they were pretty good. I gave this one a "like" rating.

3) Vegetable Power: black pepper cashews, spicy chickpeas, and edamame beans {140 calories}
          This was the one from this box that I thought I wouldn't like. Yet, I ended up liking this one. I gave it a "like" rating.

4) Toffee Apple: sticky toffee sauce with granny apple slices {80 calories}
           The toffee sauce was good. However, paired with the dried apple slices it was nasty. I couldn't even eat it all. I gave this a "trash" rating.

If you wish to sign up for graze, you can click here (my affliate link}. You will receive your first and fifth box free and you have no commitment to the program.

Determined to do This...

Back in October of 2012, I wrote this post talking about weight loss. I had changed my eating habits and had actually lost a good bit of weight. I was almost to my first goal and then one day I just quit. I don't why and I don't remember what I did to ruin my eating habits.

But, when I was making my 101/1001 list in June, I added a lot of health and fitness items on the list. I didn't decide to start working on them until the beginning of September. My first change was my diet. With the exception of two days since September 6, I have been grain-free, dairy-free, and white potato-free. I haven't missed it as much as I thought I would. I figured with me being Italian, I wouldn't make it without my pasta, but surprisingly, I am doing fine.

I also, for the first time in many years, added exercise to my daily routine. I usually try to do between 45 - 60 minutes of exercise a day.

Do I stick to this strictly everyday? No. I have had a cheeseburger and french fries. I have had a few slices of pizza. But, that has been it. And I noticed that I felt physically horrible after it. And I noticed that I didn't miss the crap as much as I thought I would.

I also haven't exercised every single day, but no less than 3 times a week. My goal is to be able to do it everyday without thought but 3 times a week is a good start.

It's tough sometimes because I am the only one who made these changes. The only one out of everyone in this family. Everyone else still eats the same old crap they did on September 5. But, you know what? That's fine. Because I am getting more healthy and fit everyday.

I have seen some loss on the scales since the 6th. I can't say for sure exactly how much since I weighed myself for the first time a week after I started. So, we'll just say that as of now, I have lost 5 lbs.+. That's 5 lbs in 2 and a half weeks. I guess I am doing something right.I can tell in my waist and various other places that there are positive changes happening.

I've got this, this time around.

Unstoppable
by: Fozzy (featuring Christie Cook)

Talkin' 'bout me, oh so softly, you say I can't explain
I'll make it happen, no distraction, you know I can't be tamed
One night could be a million, one chance is all I need
I will complete this mission, damn you, I will succeed

Away from my past because in my eyes, I can do anything,
Now watch me rise

You'll never break me, I'm unstoppable
You'll never shake me, I'm unstoppable
You'll never break me, I'm unstoppable
You'll never shake me, I'm unstoppable

Don't need your rules, I ain't no fool, I live by my own code
Spark the fire of my desire and make my dreams explode
I do just what I want to because I know it's right
Don't tell me I can't make it, won't die without a fight

Away from my past because in my eyes, I can do anything
Now watch me rise

You'll never break me, I'm unstoppable
You'll never shake me, I'm unstoppable
You'll never break me, I'm unstoppable
You'll never shake me, I'm unstoppable

One night could be a million, one chance is all I need
I will complete this mission, damn you, I will succeed
Away from my past because in my eyes, I can do anything
Now watch me rise

You'll never break me, I'm unstoppable
You'll never shake me, I'm unstoppable
You'll never break me, I'm unstoppable
You'll never shake me, I'm unstoppable
You'll never break me, I'm unstoppable
You'll never shake me, I'm unstoppable

I'm also a fan of sports magazines like NASCAR Illustrated, Sports Illustrated, The NFL Magazine. I also used to have a subscription to Everyday with Rachel Ray.

Hmmm... I really don't know. Maybe one of the many recipes, workouts, or beauty tips I've pinned recently.

3. What is your favorite celebrity to follow on Instagram or Twitter?

Any of the New Orleans Saints players. I follow them all on both platforms.

4. Is there one article of clothing no matter what the season you can’t help but love?

I wear my New Orleans tank tops year round. Of course, in the cooler months I'll wear a hoodie over them when I go out somewhere.

5. Do you prefer email or snail mail?

Depends what it is. Email comes a lot quicker and I have no patience.

Must See TV.... {Fall 2014 Edition}

I usually am not much of a TV watcher. Sometimes it's because the kids decide to monopolize the TV, other times its because my husband chooses to monopolize the TV. But, there are shows I enjoy watching.

Sunday

* Our Sunday is filled with the last races of the season (until November) and football.

* Once Upon A Time {8 pm EST; ABC; Although I usually have to watch it online the next day}

* Madam Secretary {8 pm EST; CBS; Again I usually have to watch it online the next day}

* Total Divas {9 pm EST; E!}

Monday

My Mondays seem pretty clear. Occasionally we will watch WWE Raw but not often.

* Dancing With the Stars {8 pm EST; ABC}

I like Dancing With the Stars and used to watch it religiously. My husband on the other hand does not like it. This year I am going for Michael Waltrip (with Alfonso Ribeiro being second).

* The Originals {8 pm EST; The CW}

Tuesday

 * NCIS {8 pm EST; CBS}

* NCIS: New Orleans {9 pm EST; CBS}

* Chicago Fire {10 pm EST; NBC}

* Chrisley Knows Best {10 pm EST; USA; I usually have to catch the repeat}

Wednesday

* Hell's Kitchen {8 pm EST; FOX}

* The Mysteries of Laura {8 pm EST; NBC; I watch it the next day on Hulu}

* Law and Order: SVU {9 pm EST; NBC}

* Red Band Society {9 pm EST; FOX; I watch it on Hulu the next day}

* Chicago PD {10 pm EST; NBC}

* Nashville {10 pm EST; ABC; I watch it on Hulu the next day}

Thursday

* How to Get Away With Murder {10 pm EST; ABC}

Shows I am Looking Forward To

* Bad Judge {Thursdays @ 9 pm EST; NBC; Premieres on 10/2}

* The Walking Dead {I don't get to watch this coming season for another year. I can only watch it on Netflix. :-( }

* American Horror Story: Freakshow {I don't get to watch this coming season for another year. I can only watch it on Netflix. :-( }

What are your must see shows this fall? What shows that haven't started yet are you looking forward to?

Review: Graze

{Photo Credit}
This post contains an affiliate link.

Graze is a mail order service for snacks. Graze specializes in healthy snack alternatives to chips and candy. Each box is $6 per week (or at least mine are). I received my first box free through a promotion Graze was offering. I will also receive my fifth box free through the same promotion. They have two types of boxes to choose from: Nibble Box or the Calorie Counter Box. The Nibble Box is eligible to contain any of the over 90 snacks Graze has. The Calorie Counter Box contains only snacks that are 50 - 150 calories.

I opted for the Calorie Counter Box.

Graze allows you to rate products before or after you try them. For example, I do not like pistachios, so I went ahead and marked all pistachio snacks as "trash". This alerts Graze that I do not wish to receive those snacks in my box.

Graze has a 4 level rating system. "Trash": Do not like, "Try": It's Ok, "Like": I like it, "Love": I love it. I do rate my snacks after each box because I prefer to have boxes catered to what I like especially after I have tried the snacks.

I do have one dislike about Graze. In my boxes, I only get 4 packages in my box. If I want one package a day as a snack, I have to purchase two boxes a week.

Below is my first box:

1) Morning Energizer: cherries, pears, and walnuts {140 calories}
        I did not like this one and gave it a "trash" rating. It just did not taste very well together for me.

2) Key Lime Pie: lime infused raisins, sponge pieces, mini meringues, and green raisins {110 calories}
        I liked this one. It did taste similar to key lime pie. I gave this a "like" rating.

3) Tomato & Basil Pizza: mini tomato breadsticks, basil crunchini, and cheese flavored cashews {120 calories}
        At first,  I was going to give this one a "trash" rating. However, after the first bite, it wasn't that bad. I ended up giving this one a "like" rating.

4) Raspberry & coconut muffin: amaretti drops, raspberry infused cranberries, almond slices and coconut flakes {140 calories}
        This one was pretty good as well. I am not a fan of coconut flakes, but overall this snack was good. It did taste like a muffin without the flour part. I gave this one a "like" as well.

Graze allows you to pick which weeks you receive a box as long as you change your date by the deadline. There is no limit on how many times you can skip a box. I really like that feature.

In the future, I will be doing all boxes for a month in one post rather than one post per box.

If you wish to sign up for graze, you can click here (my affliate link}. You will receive your first and fifth box free and you have no commitment to the program.

Genie in a Bottle...

If I Had Three Wishes...

1. Lots of Money
Right now, I can't give an exact number but I know it will be a pretty insane amount. Enough to buy my house, cars, pay for my college education, pay for my kids' college educations, pay for my grandmother to be able to quit her job and enjoy her time, buy some frivolous crap that I don't need but want. So, yeah, insane amount of money.

2. Happiness for all of my Loved Ones
Of course, I am not completely selfish. I want those that I love to be happy.

3. An Unspoken Wish
I'll whisper it to the genie, but the general population does not need to know it.

Feeling a Little.... Blah....

Sometimes I get into a little funk where I just feel "blah". I look around and there are tons of things that I need to be doing.

Deep house cleaning, school work, working on my novel, blogs to write, American Heritage Girl plans to make, books to read and reviews to write. It's all there and it all needs to be done. But, I just don't feel like doing it.

Here lately, I am in one of those funks.

This is what my current WIP folder looks like:
They are all in various stages of development. Some actually have word counts. Others are just blurbs, notes, and muse photos.

I currently have 165 books on my TBR ARC list. That number doesn't even touch the books I have BOUGHT to read.

I just finished my first class of my Masters. As long as I get the scores on my final week of assignments that I think I will get, I should have an A in that class. My second class began yesterday. And I seriously took a break from school yesterday. All those assignments will be waiting for me today, right?

Occasionally I get in these moods where I get it into my mind that I want to do something. During my last class, I did all of my current week assignments in one day. One day! Right now, all I want to do is work on my novel. I want to spend every waking moment writing. But, I can't. Because all of these other things get in my way. The result? I feel blah. I just decide to do NOTHING since I can't do what I WANT to do.

Any tips on how to get out of those "blah" moods?

Product Review: Julep {July 2014}

 photo IMAG0374_zps1b5f4751.jpg

I just realized that my third Julep box was just delivered and I haven't done my post on the first box yet.

Julep is a mail - order beauty service for $24.99 a month. Upon signing up, you answer a series of questions to discover your "style". When I took the quiz, my style was "Boho Glam". Therefore, the box I received was tailored towards that style. The Boho Glam box includes two nail polishes and one full size beauty item each month.

I received this box free by using a code from Julep.

For this box, I did not get to select any of the items I received {except for one}.

 photo IMAG0617_zps6470c924.png
Item A: Nail Polish {Jeanne}; Regular Price $14
Item B: Nail Polish {Harriet}; Regular Price $14
Item C: Mighty Cuticle and Nail Serum; Regular Price $28
Item D: Plie Wand Creativity Kit; Regular Price $10

These nail colors did not appeal to me. These are two colors that I would never choose for myself. I am not a pastel type of person.

I absolutely LOVE the Mighty Cuticle and Nail Serum. This has become a regular item in my nail maintenance routine. This is a product I will continue to purchase to use. The description of this product says that you should have stronger and smoother nails in 2 - 3 weeks. I can definitely say that my nails do seem stronger since I began using this product.

When I signed up, they were offering some products at discounted prices. I saw the Plie Wand Creativity Kit for 50% off (originally $10 and I paid $5). Since my first box was free, I only paid $5 for $66 worth of products.

Although I was not fond of the color selections, I decided to stay with Julep for awhile longer.

If you wish to check out Julep, click HERE to sign up. This will offer you the first box on them. You will then be enrolled in the Maven program. However, you can call and cancel after your first {free} box if you do not wish to continue.

5,000 Question Survey {Part 6}

Part 6 of this challenge includes Questions #151-200.

151. What is louder and more annoying: 200 adults talking or one four-year-old screaming?
  • 200 adults talking.
152. Do you believe the stories about planes, boats and people mysteriously disappearing into the Bermuda triangle?
  • The jury is still out. I am unsure of what to believe.

153. Who are you the most jealous of?
  • No one. While you may be jealous of what you see of someone, you never know what secrets and skeletons they may have. I'll keep mine, thanks.

154. What is the happiest way you can start your day?
  • Everyone waking up in a good mood (never happens).

155. Do you ever have moments where you feel like everything is all right in the world?
  • In the world? No. Do you watch the news? How can I feel everything is right? As far as in MY world, sometimes.

156. Who thinks that you are offensive?
  • Half of the people who read my personal twitter. I've had a few say they would pray for my soul. Guess they can't handle the fact that I'm missing that filter that is between my brain and mouth/fingers.

157. If you had to teach a class in something, what would you be able to teach people?
  • Basic Psychology.

158. Have you ever had a spiritual experience (an experience that cannot be explained by science)?
  • Not that I can think of right off.

159. Do you believe that this experience was truly mystical or do you think there is some scientific explanation for it, only you don't know what it is?
  • This is not applicable.

160. Do you get offended easily?
  • Depends on the topic. Some topics I can. Most topics I am not.

161. Would you still love and stay with your significant other if he or she had to have a breast or testicle removed?
  • Yes.

162. Do you believe in fate or free will?
  • Yes, I believe in both in different situations. I believe that some things happen because of fate. I also believe that some things happen because we had free will to make decisions.

163. Do you believe that only boring people get bored?
  • No. I'm not boring but I can be bored easily.

164. Can life change or are we all stuck in vain?
  • Life changes based on the decisions we make.

165. What changes are you afraid of?
  • My children becoming 18.

166. Are you a day person or nocturnal?
  • Nocturnal all the way.

167. What one CD could you listen to for an entire week (no mixed CD’s, it must be an album)?
  • Who listens to CDs anymore. I thought we all listened to music online now. But, I would choose Fozzy's Do You Wanna Start A War.

168. Which is worse, working in retail, food service, or an office?
  • I've only had experience in food service. But, I am going to guess that retail and food service are probably close to equal as the worst.

169. What's the coolest job you ever had?
  • Probably Emergency Medical Technician and driver for an ambulance transport company.

170. What is one central idea that your thoughts seem to come back to?
  • The future.

171. Have you ever wanted to be an actor/tress?
  • Yes, when I was younger.

172. If you had the power to control one person and make this person do anything you wanted for a whole day, who would you pick and what would they do?
  • Can I say my daughter so she would do her chores? Otherwise, I have no idea.

173. What star sign are you and what is your sign like?

174. Did the Blair Witch Project scare you?
  • No. It was stupid.

175. Are you in constant fear of death?
  • No. But, it does cross my mind sometimes.

176. Does fear of death keep you from building a life?
  • No.

177. Do you like all your movies to be in wide-screen?
  • I actually prefer full screen.

178. Are you a fan of any comic books?
  • I have a bunch from when I was a kid. They are like Superman and Wonder Woman.

179. At what age did you attend your first funeral?
  • When I was almost a year old, I went with my parents to my Great-Grandmother's funeral.

180. What do you smell like (lotion, cologne, sweat)?
  • Right now? Sweat. I need a shower.

181. What are your greatest sources for wisdom?
  • My family and friends.

182. When you were little, where did your parents tell you babies come from?

183. What is your favorite band?
  • Fozzy.

184. What's the best cheesy 80's song?
  • The Goonies R Good Enough by Cyndi Lauper. Love The Goonies, but please, the song was cheesy!

185. What's the best kind of movie to see on a date?
  • Comedy. You definitely don't want anything deep on a date, especially a first date. So, go comedy and laugh a little.

186. Do you like to sit in the front, middle or back of the Movie Theater?
  • Back. I have a thing about people looking at the back of my head.

187. Have you ever been inside an abandoned building?
  • Yes. With permission of course.

188. Under what circumstances would you agree to work for free?
  • I can't really think of one. Well, when I finish all of my education and get licensed, I will do some pro-bono cases.

189. Candles or strobe lights?
  • Candles.

190. Do you think the Lord of the Rings movies are true to the books or did Hollywood change the story too much?
  • Never read the books or saw the movies.

191. When you see a stranger on the street does your first reaction lean towards thinking of this person as a potential friend or as a potential threat?
  • Depends. I try not to stereotype people.

192. Is it natural for human beings to fear and distrust each other, or is it cultural?
  • I think it is natural. No one is born completely perfect so there is a reason to have some distrust naturally. However, it is important to note that you can distrust people for different reasons.

193. What do you really want to buy?
  • A house, a car, a kindle fire.

194. You have to choose. Would you be happier marrying someone rich for their money or living in the streets and subway tunnels with someone you love?
  • Living in the streets and subway tunnels with someone you love. Money doesn't always buy happiness.

195. If someone wanted to understand you what book could they read that would help?
  • I am writing a book called Perfectly Imperfect. It explains my entire life and thought processes.

196. Do you think it’s odd that Americans have freedom of religion and yet call themselves 'one nation under god'?
  • Sometimes.

197. In what sense are you a minority?
  • I'm a female? Are they still considered minorities?

198. Are you anti social?
  • I appear to be. But, I'm really just shy and reserved.

199. Do you photograph well?
  • No.

200. Do you think that human beings would survivor through a nuclear winter?
  • No.
